Cherished Memories of Aunty Lorna

Created by Sally-Ann 2 years ago

Just a few words of memories of our beautiful Aunty Lorna starting with a story from my late mum (Dorothy, Lorna’s cousin), that she told me when they were both children.  She told me how they would perform shows to the neighbourhood children; tap dancing on iron grates in the street, make up plays and sing.  Mum’s eyes would light up telling us of their antics bringing it all to life; the sparkle in the children’s eyes as Lorna and Mum paraded.

In much later years I recall comical cards coming through the post from Aunty Lorna’s cat to my mum’s.  Aunty Lorna always signed this Princess.  Never sure if this was Aunty Lorna’s cats name or just that the cats always held the hierarchy within the households.  Both I think!  Mum and Aunty Lorna would talk regularly on the phone and I always looked forward to Aunty Lorna coming to visit mum in Weymouth.  She was a burst of sunshine.  So beautiful inside and out.  Never an unkind word said about anyone, and was always laughing and joking.  It was always so lovely to see Martin & Sheila (who always made sure Aunty Lorna had a safe passage and return) as I and our girls would pop down the road from where we lived.

After my mum had passed, I (thankfully) managed to spend a short weekend with Aunty Lorna, Martin & beautiful Sheila.  Aunty Lorna treated me like an absolute Queen insisting that she cook and prepare a beautiful meal which was delicious.  We spent such a lovely time going through photographs and laughing and joking with countless stories she relayed.  As well, she loved her beautiful garden, an abundance of shrubs, flowers trees and so many wild birds that visited her every day which she kept fully fed.  I believe they loved her so much, she took such joy with making sure there was enough on the bird table for them whatever the weather.

This is a time I will cherish dearly and hold those memories so very close.  I will miss you very much.

God bless you beautiful Aunty Lorna.  Love you always.  Neil, Sally, Corinna & Amber xxxx
